The Rak Overpant adds rugged weather protection to any backcountry riding kit. Motorcycling is the only sport we know of where people wear rain gear even when it’s not wet, despite the obvious heat and comfort challenges that presents. With the Rak Overpant you can tour in whichever non-waterproof riding pant you choose, and still have total confidence in foul weather. Full-length side zips allow you to easily throw the Rak over moto boots, while double layer reinforcements in the knees and seat add durability in high wear areas. Combine the Rak with the Woodsman (or any comfortable trail pant) for a durable layering system in every kind of weather.
The best way to expand the bookends of tolerable riding conditions is through layering. An RTW touring kit should be comfortable in blistering desert heat, and also freezing rain and snowy passes, because you’ll probably encounter all of that. Side-zip moto overpants have always existed (mostly for commuters), but for us the idea actually started with backcountry hunting gear. Backcountry hunters don’t like waterproof pants because they’re noisy, so when the rain stops, their rain pants come off. That same concept applies to offroad and ADV, except for us the issue is comfort rather than noise. When it’s not raining – like in the desert for example - why are we still wearing waterproof gear? With the Rak Overpant you can choose whatever all-day riding pant you want – whether mesh, soft shell, or a classic dirt bike pant, in-boot or over-boot – and still have reliable protection in rain or snow.
The Rak Overpant features a durable 3-layer nylon eVent DV Expedition shell fabric for the pinnacle of waterproof/breathable and windproof protection. Watertight, full length YKK VISLON® AquaGuard® zippers keep water out, while making the Rak super easy to get on over moto boots. There’s a single zippered cargo pocket on the thigh, to keep your necessities close at hand when you’re off the bike, and belt loops to keep your pants up (check out our Autotomous Belt).

BMW Summer Pants are my favorites here in AZ. Since they are thick cotton, they aren’t waterproof or warm below 60F. The RAK Overpants are the perfect solution to keep me warm and dry. They are high quality, pack small and look good.
I was very happy after receiving the Rak Overpant. The fabric weight is perfect for carrying along in case of rain. I have the heavier Basilik pants but really like the step back in weight of the RAK but not give up rain protection. Double layers in the high wear areas. Very well made. Typical MM gear. I wear a 34x34 jeans but ordered 36L Rak which was perfect to be able to wear the Rak over the jeans. The zippered legs making donning trail side easy when a down pour catches me.
I have not yet used the pants in a serious off-road ride, but early impressions are excellent. The materials are top not notch, rugged but still packable. I love the fact that the zipper goes all the way from your waist to your feet for very easy putting on and taking off. Fit was per the fit chart. One improvement I would like to see, a system to tighten the bottoms for when your walking in them, so they don’t drag on the ground
I really like these. My favorite thing about them is the full length zipper on both sides of the pants. They also look cool, are minimalist, and feel they like normal pants, not heavy or baggy like typical Adventure pants. (I can probably use them for skiing too, they're built pretty tough)
They can be used as a stand-alone rain pant or as a regular riding pant. I'm not sure how they will breathe in the hot desert riding but they're super nice in this California winter weather which is in the 60's now. I had them over merino wool long underwear and alpinestars bionic freeride shorts which has beefy hip plastic and there's plenty of room. They deflect the wind beautifully. I haven't had a chance to try them in the rain yet but they feel the part.
You have to supply the protection which I love. They fit perfect over my Mobius knee braces, alpinestars bionic shorts and my alpinestars tech 7 boots although I wish there was an extra inch of velcro at the bottom of the pant to fit looser around the bottom of the boot. I have just been keeping it open on the bottom and I've had no issues.
I also wear an MX pair of riding pants underneath as I plan to shed the rak pants when it gets hot in the desert but they can also be used as a standalone pant.
I'm 6'1 185lbs and got a 34 size pant and they are perfect.
I got them on sale with the bundle deal around Christmas. I got the Large Rak jacket.
It's pretty easy to get them on and off over your motorcycle boots.
I'm very satisfied about the quality and technical design.
