Very nice jacket with good quality fit and finish. You can feel the heat just seconds after turning it on! Looks stylish off the bike, so can use it everyday. I’m usually a size M but went up to a Large as recommended and it fit me nicely. Highly recommended this jacket for anyone riding in cold weather!
I want to love this jacket, as it's by far the most comfortable (and stylish) heated jacket I've owned. Not only does it keep you decently warm off the bike, but there is zero feel of wires or controls anywhere but below the left pocket. Why I can't love it -
1. Main reason is it's TOO hot even on the lowest setting. While the internal controller is a great idea, it needs a 4th level about 20F below the current lowest setting, like what Gerbing offers on their single channel digital controller. Or the wattage all around should just be reduced, as I honestly cannot image under what conditions one might want to use the RED setting at 126F.
2. It too long. At 5'9, 160 pounds the Medium fits me great, but looks like a mini-dress on. The current length (clearly meant for people like Pete) should be sold as a long, and a shorter version should be made available. This is not just for esthetics, it's bulky to wear riding when it comes down to your thighs!
3. Last is a nitpick - I wish it would turn on at the lowest setting (and yes an even lower one as noted above) as it would be safer and require less fussing while riding.
First off, I apologise for my late reaction. I was touring in the French Alps last week, so I haven't gotten time to reply properly. Now that we got that out of the way, I just want to say that it actually runs a bit small. It's just a little tight around the body, and my arms are just a little bit too short to comfortably use the 'handwarmer' function by putting the thumbs through the provided hole. Then again, this is not the first jacket or sweater I got with this option that I never use. I wore the Ectotherm vest under my Rev-It armor suit and It was such a perfect combo that I kept that for the entirety of the trip. Temperatures high up on the 'cols' were such that I usually kept it on Medium Heat if needed. When outside temperatures would run 25 to 27 degrees celcius, I just unzipped the collar and a bit more of both the armor suit and jacket to be comfortable at cruising speeds. The Rev-It Parka I wore over everything during the trip from Belgium to the French Alps was stored away to never resurface again the whole trip. If I could I'd trade in the vest for a size M instead of S. But I'm OK with the small for now... I also have the woodsman pants. The sheer quality of the products has definitely put me in the market for a Baslisk Jacket and Pants. If you don't have a heated vest yet, make sure you get this one. Cheers!
Thanks for your review Henri! Yes, the Ectotherms run a bit small. Please contact our CS team, maybe we can find a solution how to exchange it for a medium sized jacket!
This is in anyway a great jacket. i felt the heat after 3-5 seconds, even around my neck :-) Now I just hope that the jacket is made of quality material that makes it last for many years! The next version comes with
stepless adjustment? ;-)
Thanks Erik, that's great to hear! We'll have some small adjustments on the new Ectotherms but a stepless adjustment is not on the list (yet) ;-)
I'm 5'5, 145 lbs. Small Ectotherm fits perfect. Warm at camp and super warm plugged in on the bike. Jacket allows me to pack one less layer. On the GS1250, the Reckless 80 easily fits with no racks. You can tell riders have put a lot of thought into the design. Small things like the tent pole bag, and easy access beaver tail section make a difference when packing light and fast.
The Ectotherm is a great travel jacket. We designed it so that it turned into the 'Why not' jacket since it pulls double duty as a warming layer and heated jacket so why not bring it. Stoked to hear you're getting out and using your Ectotherm and Reckless 80L.
