Ectotherm Insulated 12v Heated Jacket (V2.0)

We added carbon fiber heating elements to a kick-ass technical puffy, and the ‘Ectotherm’ was born. The updated V2.0 brings a redesigned lower-profile controller and cable management pocket, plus two new battery-saving modes to extend off-bike capabilities when used with a power bank.

When the wind chill is at its peak, the Ectotherm’s bike-powered 6-panel carbon-fiber 3.5Amps/42w heating system will keep you warm on high alpine passes and long, cold pavement stretches.  When you crawl out of your tent on frigid mornings, the Ectotherm performs as a super warm stand-alone insulator with 100g body-mapped synthetic PrimaLoft Gold insulation with Cross Core Technology.

V2.0's upgraded heat settings include a Low Power Mode, where the heating elements pulse, gradually increasing and decreasing heat, helping maximize battery life when plugged into an external power bank. In Timer Mode, an auto-off setting is activated to maintain your desired heat level at 20/30/60 minute presets, which is handy for falling asleep on bitter nights and not using up all your battery.

DESIGN

UPDATES TO VERSION 2.0

The Ectotherm V2.0 introduces a number of heating functionality updates.

  • Lower profile heat control button interface
  • Multi-mode functionality and additional heat settings, providing options for efficiency and battery management
  • Low power-pulse setting for minimal battery consumption
  • Timer setting for nighttime use
  • Zippered pocket for cord management
  • Electrical cord pass-through for pocket-stored battery integration
  • Stitched-in infographic illustration with controller

Unlike conventional heated liners the Ectotherm is a fully functional stand-alone synthetic insulation layer. By combining the functionality of a technical puffy and a heated liner we’ve added even more performance and versatility to a layer that we rarely leave home without. Now you can enjoy the comfort of onboard 12V heat without over burdening your pack space. Pair it with heated grips and hand-shields to create the ultimate minimalist heat system for backcountry and RTW travel.

Built with 100g of PrimaLoft Gold Insulation with Cross Core Technology at the core and 60g in the underarms to reduce bulk under armor, the Ectotherm is well equipped for any cold weather trip. This high-tech insulation combines PrimaLoft Gold, with aerogel technology, to provide up to 52% more warmth than the same weight of PrimaLoft Gold Insulation alone. This enables us to achieve both enhanced warmth and decreased weight. Integrated directly into the fibers, aerogel further enhances the performance of synthetic insulation. Now not only will it perform better than down when wet, it will also perform better when compressed under armor.

To further battle the chill of riding in the cold, we added 6 thin, flexible carbon fiber heat panels in the collar, arms, left and right chest and back. Activate the heat with a hem mounted controller to toggle through 3 levels of 3.5amp/42w heat to maximize comfort. The system is powered by your bike’s 12V battery (wiring harness included) for heat that lasts as long as the ride. When it comes to cold weather riding the Ectotherm Insulated 12v Heated Jacket is a powerhouse of comfort when pushing the boundaries of riding season.

The name comes from Ectothermic, a scientific term for animals that exchange body heat with external sources, like a lizard basking on a hot rock.

Ecotherm is incredible!

I live in the mountains of West Virginia and decided to take my KTM 890 Rally! It’s 42 degrees and there are patches of snow. This is the first chance I had to test out my new ecotherm jacket and I love it! I put it on over a t shirt and had it on high! I was riding at high speeds and still found myself starting to get hot! Mosko products are definitely worth every penny!

Ectotherm jacket

Have used 3 days straight in temps rangeing from 40 to mid 50s. 50 and above without heat.
And below 50 with heat made riding enjoyable.
It's also lighter and more packable than the heavy fleece I usually wear. Expensive for sure. But so far I'm very happy with it.
It's made me realize I need heated grips on my 890!
And maybe 🤔 a heated seat. LoL

Hey, Jon! We love extending the riding season with the Ectotherm too.

I've been riding 40 years and have tried all the Gerbing, Venture heat stuff. This jacket continues to impress me after two years of use in remote places. Nothing prepared me for how good this heated puffy was going to be (and I commute in NYC to film sets down to 18 degrees in the winter - F*** the subways).

I got my Ectotherm December of 21. I used it on my dual sport in the Chihuahua desert of west Texas, all over Arizona, Utah, Death Valley, Redwood Forests of Northern California. I then used it on my sport touring bike from southern Arizona up to Utah and the Grand Canyon, trying to outrun a snow storm coming south through Flagstaff and Sedona (I almost won). Out west there are often huge variations in temperature from time of day and elevation changes and this jacket makes planning for those rides in shoulder seasons possible.

I recently used it again for a long tour from Arizona down to Baja this year. It was the only puffy jacket I took with me as you need to pack minimally for a long journey across so climate zones while doing off-road. Sometimes I would turn it on max in the mountain passes and other times I can leave it off, only as a base layer. Baja Norte can still be chilly in the winter time but Baja Sur can get into the 80's during the day and warmer when working on the bike off-road. Either way, it was a perfect base layer to explore towns in, walking around with the cord tucked away. It's as good as a Patagonia puffy when off the bike. I spent many nights around a campfire on a beach or in the desert of Catavina, under a blanket of stars, and was super cozy in my Ectotherm. Now I just need to add the Strata base layers so I can have zip off long johns and maximum flexibility for morning to mid-day temperature changes!

I'm back in NYC now and it's plugged into my bike and under my Klim Latitude jacket as I commute each day. I have to admit, every time I put it on, I long to be on another adventure instead of fighting traffic on busy city streets...

Fantastic jacket but still fitment issues.

I ordered a large since Mosko say that they have fixed the fitment issues and this is mostly true. It fits greats everywhere except for the hips and butt area. I also tried the XL but it's too big in the arms. It bunches and is loose in the body and a little long. The problem with the large is that its pretty snug at its lowest point and I have slightly wide hips and a butt and it just doesn't look good from behind. I'm not excessively overweight. A dadbod and I could lose 10lbs and it's snug enough that it visibly looks a little meh in the area. Functionally, there is zero impact but I enjoy it when my clothes compliment me, like almost everyone else. Not sure why sizing is an ongoing issue with Mosko. Is everyone at the office shaped the same? Narrow hips and no butt? I have a Jackaloft that is an XL and fits right (a little long in the sleeves), but...
I dont really wear XL in anything. I'm universally a large and these items fit correctly.

Now why is it that Mosko doesnt fit? Is it a me issue or is it Mosko? Sure, a lot of people wont nitpick but for the price, I want this to be more than motorcycle apparel. It's warm, comfy and doesnt look like a MC clothing. From the front its very flattering but as soon as I turn around...well you decide if its an issue for you or not.

Anyways, verdict is that its a good jacket, hence the 4 stars and if you are built differently, buy it! Only having to run one mid layer under a shell is a game changer. The color is fantastic (unlike the luminous colors they currently have for the Rak and Basilisk) and it looks good.
